For those interested in beginning the process to adopt from Haiti, IBESR (Haitian Social Services) is currently taking new dossiers for adoptions. This is encouraging for those wanting to adopt. We currently have 70 children in the orphanage that are available for adoption. If you are interested in looking into the process, please contact us and we will put you in contact with one of our participating agencies.
While Haiti is processing new adoptions, they have decided not to release dossiers for those that were still in IBESR, or had not yet entered, prior to the January 12, 2010 earthquake for children who are in the US on Humanitarian Parole. The US is working on legislation to allow us to adopt our children in the US that have come home on Humanitarian Parole, and we have been assured that they will have a solution for us by mid-June.
On a sad note, the US is closing the Humanitarian Parole on April 24th. There are some 300 children still in Haiti that were in the process of adoption to US families that qualify for Humanitarian Parole, and will now not be able to come home through this program. They will have to remain in Haiti until their adoption is complete in Haiti.
For those that were already released from IBESR before the earthquake, adoption decrees continue to be issued and are trickling in. As they are received they are passed along to the agencies to give to the adoptive families.
