June at Maison has been packed with mission teams, guests, and action. The first week of June was full of adoptive families visiting, as well as a duo from the OAK Project who came to work and care for the nannies and workers at Maison. Kelly and Marian worked on Rubblewear necklaces with the workers at Maison. The ladies from the OAK Project planned a special beach day for some of the ladies, but the weather on the coast didn’t cooperate. Instead, they were treated to a relaxing day by the pool, with meals and ice cream by the pool. These ladies relaxed, played, and came back refreshed and renewed. You can order original necklaces and learn the history of Rubblewear at www.theoakproject.com/rubble-wear/ .
The following week, we had a team from Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Faculty of Hilger Higher Learning trained the teachers on new curriculum and helped map out a schedule and provide structure for the school. The ladies encouraged the children to let their creative juices flow in the afternoons with different art projects. They cut, glued, drew, and colored wonderful works of art. A line was hung to display their creations. The men in the group screened windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering the bedrooms. Cubbies were built for each child to have a place to store their own treasures. They installed fans, and sawed a door in half to improve ventilation in the rooms. They problem-solved, made lists for future teams, and encouraged the staff at Maison through their dedication to providing a quality environment.
The next team to arrive held a VBS for the children and a ballet/dance camp. The children spent time learning about God’s salvation plan for them from the beginning of time, and how God has a plan for each of them through Jesus, God’s gift to us. They acted out parts of Bible stories, created a mural of people in God's family, decorated a Christmas tree with hand-crafted ornaments, mixed up a tasty ‘creation snack’, and made a hand-
print quilt to remind them that they are part of God's family. Each child had the opportunity to learn ballet and other movements. The toddlers participated in circle songs and dances, and the older children learned basic ballet positions and actions.
In the midst of the planned teams, we always have visitors who stop in to bless us in many different ways. Some groups stop and play for a bit, others stay for a day. All provide love and care to the children, and encouragement to the staff at Maison.
We are thankful for our summer servants so far! Thank you for partnering with us to care for the children at Maison.
